π¨ JACKPOT IN A BANK ROLL! π¨
Can you imagine finding a $300,000 treasure inside a simple $10 roll of pennies from the bank? It actually happened! While most people look right past their copper change, one lucky collector spotted a “transitional error” that changed his life.
The coin in question is often the legendary 1943 Copper Lincoln Cent. During WWII, pennies were supposed to be made of steel, but a few leftover copper blanks from 1942 were struck by mistake. Today, these are the “Holy Grail” of coin collecting!
π How to Identify the $300,000 Error:
-
The Magnet Test: This is the most important step! A normal 1943 penny is steel and will stick to a magnet. A rare $300,000 copper penny will NOT stick.
-
The Weight Test: Grab a digital scale. A common steel penny weighs 2.7 grams, but the rare copper error weighs approximately 3.11 grams.
-
Check the Date: Look closely at the “3” in 1943. Fakes often have a “3” that looks like it was altered from an 8 or a 9.
-
Look for “No P” 2006 Pennies: Other bank roll finds include the 2006 Canadian “No Logo” penny, where a massive batch of errors was found in uncirculated rolls!
